Leituras interessantes #3

A paper titled "Global Warming: A Geological Perspective" published in Environmental Geosciences, and summarized below in Arizona Geology, should be required reading for all climate scientists. The paper notes that if "the temperature increase during the past 130 years reflects recovery from the Little Ice Age, it is not unreasonable to expect the temperature to rise another 2 to 2.5 degrees Celsius to a level comparable to that of the Medieval Warm Period about 800 years ago".

New paper confirms findings of Lindzen & Spencer of very low climate sensitivity to CO2 A paper under review for Earth System Dynamics uses a novel technique based on satellite data and surface air temperatures to find that global warming due to increased CO2 is much less than claimed by the IPCC. According to the author, the findings confirm those of Spencer & Braswell and  Lindzen & Choi that a doubling of CO2 levels would only lead to an increase in top of the atmosphere temperature of 0.67°C, or global surface temperature of about 0.18°C, instead of the alleged 3°C claimed by IPCC computer models.  


Paper finds the Sun controls climate & 'gives no support to theory of anthropogenic climate change'
A paper published in the Journal of Geophysical Research finds temperatures in the troposphere behave similarly to changes in solar activity over short timescales and a "cumulative negative [not positive as claimed by climate alarmists] feedback in the Earth climate system governing the tropospheric variability during the last 22 years."  According to the paper, "The result emphasizes a dominating role of the solar irradiance variability in variations of the tropospheric temperature and gives no support to the theory of anthropogenic climate change," and "Increasing concentration of greenhouse gases in the Earth atmosphere appeared to produce too weak forcing in order to dominate in the Earth climate system."

End of Prometheus Legacy

 Filme de uma intensidade notável, mas com um final no mínimo decepcionante.

Ridley Scott não resistiu às fantasias de um argumentista da série Lost, o que é uma pena porque perde a eficiência da simplicidade ao complicar o enredo. Fica na memória o aspecto visual e a famosa cena cirúrgica protagonizada por Noomi Rapace.

Aceitável, Renner e Weisz são top-notch mas pouco mais.

Continuem a acender velinhas e a fazer vigílias nas igrejas e não mudem a lei que não é preciso. Continuem com o cowboy way of life e não aceitem o controlo de armas. Cada vez que há um massacre numa escola há um adolescente americano a pensar "um dia vou fazer isto". E depois olha para as armas dos pais e começa a traçar um plano.

Paper finds solar activity at end of 20th century was highest in 9,400 years A recent paper published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences examines ice core and tree ring radionuclides and finds solar activity at the end of the 20th century was at the highest levels of the record spanning the past 9,400 years. The paper adds to several others demonstrating that an increase in solar activity and concomitant decrease in cloudiness during the latter 20th century are more than sufficient to explain observed global warming. 

Geoscientist explains why man-made CO2 is not the driver of global warming Dr. Ole Humlum, Professor of Geosciences at the University of Oslo, has published a summary and reply to comments on his groundbreaking paper demonstrating why man-made CO2 is not the driver of global warming.

Até os passarinhos têm algo a dizer

sobre isto da crise, e sobre isto dos impostos, e sobre isto das injustiças sociais, e sobre a TSU, e sobre isto e sobre aquilo. Há o pessoal revoltado/agressivo, que diz que temos de ir "lá" e partir aquela merda toda (very smart indeed). Há os revoltados/passivos que dizem que "eles" são todos iguais e que não vale a pena porque seja for que vá para lá, vão ser sempre uns ladrões. Há os optimistas do "bola para a frente" e do "isto é preciso é ter calma... pensamento positivo". E entre uns e outros, já não tenho paciência para ninguém e só gostava que as pessoas se calassem com esta porra toda durante pelo menos dez minutos.
